HPD arrests 16 people trying to illegally access Haiku stairs

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu Police arrested 16 people who were trying to illegally access the Haiku stairs in Windward, Oahu, early Wednesday morning.
HPD says they were arrested for second-degree trespassing.
Police officials say the incident happened around 6:40 a.m.
HPD says they climbed a fence to get into the closed-off trail, and they were all booked at the Kailua and Kaneohe police stations.
They were released on $50 bail.
They face up to a $1,000 fine and 30 days in jail.
